Watercolor print featuring Saint Elizabeth of Hungary.
Born to the King of Hungary, Elizabeth turned to prayer while she was very young to find peace following the death of her mother. Elizabeth spent nearly all her life devoted to God and she is well known for her works of charity and the miracles that occurred in her life. After becoming a widow, in order to keep her vow to become a nun, she cut off her own nose to deter suitors. She joined the 3rd Order of St. Francis and used her dowry to found a hospital in honor of St. Francis where she personally attended to the sick.
